Connect Nickbox to Gemini
Use Nickbox with Gemini CLI, with the Gemini app through Spark custom apps, or with the Gemini Enterprise preview.
Nickbox works with Gemini CLI today, and with the Gemini app where Spark custom apps are available.
Before you start
- A Nickbox account with at least one inbox connected.
- Your MCP URL:
https://nickbox.io/mcphere; the real one is in the dashboard under Connect.
Gemini CLI
Open
~/.gemini/settings.jsonand add Nickbox undermcpServers:{ "mcpServers": { "nickbox": { "httpUrl": "https://nickbox.io/mcp" } } }httpUrlis the field for Streamable HTTP servers. If the file already has other settings, add only thenickboxentry.Start
geminiand run:/mcp auth nickboxApprove read-only access in the browser. Gemini CLI stores the token locally.
Gemini app (Spark custom apps)
This route is limited. As of this writing it needs a personal Google account, United States, English, and a Google AI Pro or Ultra plan. It does not work with Workspace accounts.
- Open Settings, then Connected Apps, then Custom apps.
- Choose Add a custom app and paste your MCP URL.
- Approve read-only access on the Nickbox screen.
Availability and menu names may differ in your version.
Gemini Enterprise (preview)
An administrator can add a custom MCP server as a connector in Gemini Enterprise. This is a preview feature, so follow Google's current admin documentation and use the Nickbox URL above.
Check it works
list my inboxes
Gemini should call list_accounts and return your nicknames.
Troubleshooting
/mcpdoes not list nickbox. Check the JSON is valid and the file is~/.gemini/settings.json. Restart Gemini CLI after editing.- Authentication loops. Run
/mcp auth nickboxagain. If it still fails, delete the saved token for nickbox and retry. - No Custom apps in the Gemini app. Your account, country, language or plan is probably outside the Spark rollout. Use Gemini CLI or another client.
- Google blocks sign-in on Workspace. See the Workspace admin guide.
