Connect Nickbox to Cursor

Add Nickbox to Cursor in mcp.json and sign in with the Connect button.

Updated · 1 min read

Add one entry to Cursor's mcp.json, click Connect, and your inboxes are available in Cursor chat.

Before you start

  • Cursor installed.
  • A Nickbox account with at least one inbox connected.
  • Your MCP URL: https://nickbox.io/mcp here; the real one is in the dashboard under Connect.

Steps

  1. Open Cursor's MCP configuration. Use ~/.cursor/mcp.json for every project, or .cursor/mcp.json inside one project.

  2. Add Nickbox:

    {
      "mcpServers": {
        "nickbox": {
          "url": "https://nickbox.io/mcp"
        }
      }
    }

    If the file already lists other servers, add only the nickbox entry next to them.

  3. Open Cursor Settings, then MCP. Find nickbox and click Connect.

  4. Sign in with Google and approve read-only access on the Nickbox screen.

  5. Cursor returns to the editor. The server should show as connected, with five tools listed.

Tip for sign-in

If Cursor's built-in browser fails to complete sign-in, copy the authorization URL into your normal browser. After you approve, the browser hands control back to Cursor.

Check it works

Open a chat in Agent mode and ask:

list my inboxes

Cursor asks permission to run list_accounts. Approve it and you should see your nicknames.

Troubleshooting

  • The server shows an error. Open the JSON file and check for a missing comma or brace. Fix it and reload the window.
  • Connect does nothing. Use the browser tip above, then retry.
  • Tools do not appear in chat. Make sure you are in Agent mode and the nickbox toggle in MCP settings is on.
  • Google blocks sign-in. On Workspace accounts your admin may need to allow Nickbox. See the Workspace admin guide.
