# Connect a Microsoft inbox (coming)

> Coming, not available yet: how Outlook.com and Microsoft 365 inboxes will connect to Nickbox, the Microsoft permissions each mode will use, and what an administrator will need to approve.

Updated: 2026-10-11 · Canonical: https://staging.nickbox.io/en/docs/microsoft

Status: coming, not available yet. You cannot connect a Microsoft inbox today, and Nickbox does not ask for any Microsoft permission. This page describes the rules we decided, so you know what to expect. We update it when the feature ships, and it is live only when you see Microsoft in the Connect screen of your dashboard.

## What you will be able to connect

Outlook.com and Hotmail inboxes, and Microsoft 365 inboxes for work or school. You will sign in with Microsoft's own screen, and you can connect them next to your Gmail inboxes and search all of them in one question. Microsoft inboxes will be connected with Microsoft sign-in, not with a password. Microsoft does not accept passwords for this.

## What Nickbox will ask for

Permissions are requested one step at a time, only when you raise an inbox to a mode that needs them.

| Mode | Microsoft permission | What your assistant can do |
|---|---|---|
| `read` | `Mail.Read` and `offline_access` | Search and read. The second one keeps the connection alive without asking you again. |
| `draft` | adds `Mail.ReadWrite` | Also write drafts. Nothing is sent. |
| `send_approval` | adds `Mail.Send` | Also prepare messages. Nothing leaves until you approve that exact message in your dashboard. |
| `full` | same as `send_approval` | Also organize mail. A message to a new recipient still needs your approval. |

Every inbox starts in `read`. Nickbox enforces the mode on its own server on every call, so the mode holds even where a Microsoft permission allows more. Nickbox will never delete mail permanently. Sending rules are in the [trust center](/en/legal/trust).

## If your organization manages Microsoft 365

Many organizations stop employees from approving outside apps. If that is your case, an administrator has to approve Nickbox first. We will publish a short note you can send them, like the one for [Google Workspace](/en/docs/workspace-admin), and we will say there whether Nickbox has Microsoft's publisher verification. Shared and delegated inboxes are planned for the Pro plan after the basics. Plans are described on the [pricing page](/en/pricing).

## Disconnect it

When the feature ships, removing the inbox in the dashboard will revoke its access and delete its connection data, the same as for Gmail.
